What We Do
Achievements in San Jose
When Ewell and his children moved to the Bay Area, Hunger at Home found a new base of operations. Since 2014, Hunger at Home has enlisted the help of many “marquee” donation partners and their commitment has enabled us to provide over 2.7 million meals.
We have not only provided surplus food but have undertaken the donation and distribution of supplies like flatware, dishes, bedding and appliances from our business partners and donated them to our non-profit partners.
Achievements in San Diego
In our first year in San Diego, CA, Hunger at Home made great strides in matching both the donor partners and charity partners together and raised funds and awareness of the unfortunate problem of children with real challenges of finding their next meal in San Diego County. In 2009 and 2010, Hunger at Home provided over 1 million meals to the neediest of the area.
With our Inaugural Black Tie Charity Gala, “A Vision to Those In Need”, we raised $181,000 with all the proceeds going to the San Diego Food Bank and Network for a Healthy California. At our second annual charity gala, “Through Their Eyes” we raised $480,000 and distributed those funds to Feeding America San Diego, The Monarch School, 211, Embrace, and San Diego Rescue Mission, San Diego Food Bank and the Network for a Healthy California.
Through the generosity of our community, Hunger at Home was able to participate and sponsor a number of programs as well – from educational programs about childhood obesity and nutrition to backpack programs. We also sponsored programs for the Relay for Life and Sleepless in San Diego (with the San Diego Rescue Mission).
